Pakistani artist Affan Baghpati site specific installation at the Dubai Expo.
The installation was inspired by the minarets in Sacred Spaces. The visual motifs of the “Chand Tara” and “Surmadani Phooljaal” that are enduring motifs in Baghpati’s work have been scaled up to a monumental size, and can be seen at Dubai Expo until March 31st.
Affan Baghpati graduated with a BFA from Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi (2015) and an MA in Art and Design at SVAD, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore (2017). Baghpati collects discarded domestic objects from different cities of Pakistan and re-contextualizes them for reconsideration. The artist is interested in locating the purpose and notion of his collected objects through their design, form and functionality. His work revolves around the ideas of taste and aesthetics.
